Host Agreement
Last updated 6 September 2026
This applies in addition to the Terms of Service when you host. It sets out what you are responsible for, what we charge, and how and when you are paid.
1. You are independent
You are not our employee, agent or partner. You decide your menu, your price, your dates and who you accept. You run your own activity and are responsible for your own taxes.
2. Legal compliance — read this one carefully
You warrant that you hold every licence, registration, permission and insurance your local law requires in order to prepare and serve food to paying guests in your home, and that you will keep them current for as long as you host.
Requirements differ enormously between countries and often between municipalities. In most of the EU, regularly preparing food for payment makes you a food business operator under Regulation (EC) No 852/2004 — which typically means registering your premises with your local authority and keeping simple food-safety procedures. Some places also apply planning, zoning or condominium rules that restrict commercial activity in a home.
We cannot tell you whether hosting is lawful for you, and nothing on Squiszi should be read as saying that it is. Check with your local authority before you accept a booking. If you cannot lawfully host, do not list.
You will tell us promptly if you lose a licence or become unable to host lawfully. We may remove a listing where we have reason to believe it is not compliant.
3. Food safety and allergens
You are responsible for the food you serve. You must handle and store it safely, keep your kitchen clean, and give guests accurate allergen information when asked. If you cannot safely accommodate an allergy, say so plainly rather than taking the risk.
4. Your home and your guests
Your listing must honestly describe your home, the table, the number of seats and anything that affects a guest’s decision — including stairs, pets, smoking and shared bathrooms. Keep your space safe. Check whether your home insurance covers paying visitors; most standard policies do not.
5. Commission and fees
We charge a 5% host commissionon the meal price, and separately a service fee to the guest. Both are shown before anyone commits. Stripe’s payment processing costs are borne by us out of those fees.
If we change the commission we will give you at least 60 days’ notice. Bookings already taken are unaffected.
6. How and when you are paid
You must complete Stripe onboarding before you can be paid. Stripe verifies your identity and holds your bank details — we never see them.
We hold the guest’s payment until after the dinner has taken place, then transfer your share to your Stripe balance, which pays out to your bank on Stripe’s schedule for your country. Holding funds until the sitting is what lets us refund a guest cleanly if a dinner does not happen.
Where a guest is refunded under the cancellation policy, or wins a payment dispute, no payout is due for that booking. If we have already paid you, you agree we may recover that amount from future payouts or by invoicing you.
7. Tax reporting
We are required to report what you earn to tax authorities — in the EU under Directive 2021/514 (“DAC7”), and under equivalent rules elsewhere. There is no minimum: a single dinner is reportable.
You must give us your tax identification number, date of birth and address before we can pay you. If you do not supply this after two reminders and 60 days, we are legally obliged to withhold your payouts or close your account.
You are responsible for declaring and paying your own tax.
8. Cancellations by you
Cancelling a confirmed dinner means a guest has lost their evening, and sometimes their travel plans. Guests are refunded in full. Repeated cancellations may lead to removal.
9. Taking bookings off-platform
Taking payment outside Squiszi from a guest you met here is a breach of this agreement and grounds for removal. It also leaves both of you without payment protection or recourse.
10. Ending it
You may stop hosting whenever you like, but you must honour bookings already confirmed or cancel them in good time. We may suspend or remove a listing for breach of this agreement, safety concerns, or where the law requires it.
11. Governing law
This agreement is between you and Capital AI Srl, Via Giuseppe Ripamonti 19, 20135 Milan, Italy (VAT and tax number 13856590966), and is governed by Italian law. Nothing here displaces any mandatory protection of the law where you host.
